Feel Good Movies (and occasional TV shows)!

Hi everyone! Apologies for not having this post up last night, I had a few technical difficulties but here it is! It's the weekend! I hope you have a great weekend whatever you may be doing but for those of you who are planning on staying in and cosying up with a blanket, Ben and Jerry's and a good film then look no further because I have composed a list of my top 10 feel good movies and TV shows!

Last week I did a 'Top 10 Feel Good Songs' post. I wanted to highlight that listening to mood boosting songs actually has a lasting effect on your overall mood and positivity throughout the day. I think it's really important to focus on the things we choose to do because they really do have a drastic effect on our well being! Choosing to listen to sad music can put you in a bad mood just like choosing to watch a sad movie can make you feel down for the rest of the day! I'm not saying that those things are bad... Marley and Me is the saddest film I have ever seen but I still choose to watch it and it is still one of my favourites. However... I know that I'll watch it and spend the rest of the day cuddling my dog and wanting to wallow in bed. Sometimes that is perfect but when I need a good boost in my mood (and it's getting to that time of year where EVERYTHING makes you gloomy) these films are at the top of my list! (Links lead you to Amazon for each movie if you want to buy them!)

1. Hector and the Search for Happiness

This film is genius! I love this film and, as I've mentioned before, this film was actually partly why I decided to do a blog based on happiness and positivity. It's a feel good film because it shows a journey of someone trying to find the meaning of happiness to make his life better. It's one of those films that is hilarious but touching at the same time and it makes you want to go on your own search for happiness! I loved watching this film and it made me feel really inspired after watching it! And it's available on Netflix... even more reason to watch it!

2. Karl Pilkington: The Moaning of Life

This show is pretty similar to Hector and the Search for happiness but even more hilarious! I could watch the entire series of this show in a day without question and have abs like The Rock from laughing too hard. If you haven't seen at least one of these episodes before you just have to! I love Karl Pilkington he is so hilarious and these episodes not only highlight how funny he is but also give you so many cultural lessons! Without realising it you finish watching an episode with a wealth of knowledge about a culture you never knew about before!

3. Mamma Mia

Not many people will agree with me here about this film being a feel good film but for a previous stage lover and musical theatre fanatic this film has to be on my top 10 feel good movie list! The music is so upbeat, the scenery is beautiful and who doesn't love Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried?! It also made me cry my eyeballs out when I saw it in cinema just for being a beautiful film. I'm that person.

4. Forrest Gump

*Cries just thinking about this film*. Yes this film makes everyone sob (even my boyfriend cried like a baby watching this) so how can it be a feel good movie? Well, I would say this is a feel good movie because it has such an amazing social message in it. That nothing is impossible and if Forrest Gump can run then you can do anything! The character is just a true inspiration and there are people like him all over the world doing great things and pushing us all as individuals to do great things too. Not to mention the film has left a heck load of inspirational quotes!

5. Step Brothers

Another film that has also left behind a number of memorable quotes but for a very different reason! I think this film is probably the funniest films in existence and I always find myself quoting this film in my head and desperately trying not to laugh in public. Any funny film is good to watch to boost your mood, you'll find yourself just smiling all day!

6. Yes Man

Obviously, again, this film is hilarious (the part when he tapes his face has me in stitches just thinking about it and I also crack up over the person dressed as Dobby at the Harry Potter party) but it also has a really motivating message behind it! Always saying no to things limits you as a person and stops you from becoming the best you can be, stops you reaching the goals you really want to reach and just stops you from having a good time in life! I definitely wanted to do spontaneous bungee jumping and pilot training after watching this film.

7. Modern Family

The Dunphy family very accurately represents my family! I think what's so great about this show is that everyone can see some part of themselves/their lives/their family in the characters! Every time I watch this show I find myself saying 'that is so me' (usually it's Cam). The humour in this show is just brilliant and it makes me want to carry on watching it all day long! I LOVE this show!

Okay so the next three films highlight my inner child. I am a sucker for cartoon films/Disney films and in general films that were made for those aged under 10. They make me so happy and often take me back to when I was little so are definitely feel good movies to me...

8. Despicable Me (1 and 2)

These films are just great because they are so aesthetically pleasing I mean the colours and the characters are just so damn cute! Agnes is 100% me especially when I see dogs - they are all so cute and fluffy that I quite literally could die.  I can't count how many times I have seen despicable me with my little brothers and my niece but that's why I love it so much because it's my special bonding time with them and there's not much more that can make you feel good than family!

9. Game Plan

The Rock is just a favourite person of mine. This was the first film I saw him in and when my boyfriend showed me films like 'Fast and Furious', 'Faster' and 'Pain and Gain' I was like "nope, it's not right he's in a Disney film, he's the big softie Dad who plays football and has a bulldog". This film always makes me cry a bucket load of tears towards the end, I don't know why it's not even that sad and it's a Disney film but I cry at everything so...! This film has great songs in it (Elvis Presley) and a really touching message about a father/daughter bond so that's why it's one of my go to's for when I'm having a bad day!

10. The Grinch

Okay. Christmas. Just like in last week's post about feel good music I have to have a Christmas film on this list of feel good movies! I become really obsessed with Christmas as soon as September hits... I've already got a Christmas playlist on my phone and I'm fighting the urge to watch The Grinch right now. This film is my tradition. I always watch it with my family every Christmas Eve without fail! It's such a great film and it puts me in the Christmas spirit so easily and I love Christmas so all in all pretty perfect tbh! (I've said the word Christmas too many times it's now sounding weird). Side note: how strange is it that Cindy Lou is Jenny from Gossip Girl?!

Those are my top 10 feel good movies/TV shows! I love watching films/TV and discovering new gems so please comment below any feel good movie favourites of your own or any film that you just think is amazing and believe everyone should see (I also have a fair few of those too)!

I hope you've enjoyed reading my post! Enjoy your weekend whatever it is you're doing!

Lots of love
