If I was Prime Minister for the day, what would I change?

Hello again! My blog has been vacant for quite some time now and I would apologise for that but in fact I think I need to apologise to myself for not knowing my vision for the blog in full and being confident with it to begin with. So I'm publicly apologising to myself and to my readers for not sticking to this the way I wanted to!
But I have had a good long think about my goal for my blog. I don't want to be famous and successful from blogging; I don't want to sensor my thoughts to spare the feelings and opinions of others; I don't want to be strict on myself with religious posting to please my readers because my readers are amazing people and supportive no matter what, isn't that right?!

I never wanted blogging to be a chore for me. I went in to it with too much of a rigid plan - regular posts, planning posts months in advance, forcing myself to stick to the planned posts and not really having the inspiration to write those posts at that time. Blogging has become my escape, my happy place and I want it stay that way. The fact that I was having a writer's block after blogging for only a month or two suggests I was doing it wrong. I have my new plan and that is NO PLAN AT ALL!

I want to blog when I feel really inspired to blog, when a thought comes to me and I'm so excited about it I can't stop drafting posts in my head! I want to feel like I am completely being me in every post that I write. I don't want to worry about how many views I get and how popular my blog may become I just want to know that the people who do read my blog posts get something out of it and enjoy what they read!

So without further ado, my new blog post... totally me, totally free and hopefully totally awesome for my readers!!!

If I was Prime Minister for the day, what would I change?

Over the summer I worked with the National Citizen Service as a mentor to 15-17 year olds taking on a hefty social action project. Visit the NCS website for more inspiring info about this amazing programme for young people and to see all the awesome things I would have got up to over the summer. During a public speaking activity on the programme I was given a list of questions to ask the young people for them to practice giving answers publicly. One of those questions was this one: If you were Prime Minister for the day, what would you change?

I thought about this question and here is my answer to it.

If I was Prime Minister for the day I would not change a thing.

Not because I don't care about the issues going on in the UK, or in the world, today but because I believe in power of people. There's been so much in the news recently about protests and campaigns to get laws changed. A lot of those protesters, when asked this question, would say "remove the tax on sanitary products for women", "keep student grants", "end war" etc. But to me that defeats the point in your protest. You are protesting because you have the right to voice your opinion and being in power should not allow you to make a judgement call on behalf of people that may not agree with you.

If I was Prime Minister for day I would want to make a lasting impact not just change a few things that are in favour of my values and beliefs. I would want to encourage parliament and the people in power to think differently and realise the importance of public opinion and THAT, in time, will lead to real changes that the public want. How can I be responsible, how can one person have a final say on something? If I was Prime Minister for the day and went around changing all the laws and policies I believe are wrong - and trust me there is a lot of them - then I would be a dictator. And we all know that doesn't work.

So my advice to Mr. David Cameron and the people in parliament. Do not think that you are above the people who keep this country going because you think you have the power because when it comes down to it, you don't have the power. The people have the power. And the people will use their power when their values and beliefs are pushed. So keep on pushing and the millions of people in the UK will push back against you with all the positive force they have within them to make a better change! Because there's reason I can say I'm proud to be British for and that is that we are damn passionate about our beliefs and that is something to definitely be encouraged if it's going to make a positive change in this small but mighty (and sometimes little bit crazy) country of ours.

A lot of people often think that they are not important and I have a picture for those people:

This is my opinion on what I would, or would not change, if I was Prime Minister for the day and it is most certainly not something everybody would agree with so use the power of your public voice and let me know what it is you would do if you were Prime Minister for the day!
