I hope you're all having a lovely day, the weather may not be great but your mood certainly should be!
Firstly, I did not forget about Monday's blog post I have now changed my weekly posting date to be Wednesday. So I will have regular blog posts on Wednesday and then whenever I feel the burning desire to share something with you, other blog posts will be random! So make sure you follow me on social media to keep up to date with my posts! Secondly, on that note, I now have new social media platforms!!!!! EXCITING! I have created an Instagram and twitter account purely dedicated to my blog instead of my personal accounts so that I can widen by audience, stop spamming people on my personal accounts and so that I can dedicate posts and updates related to my blog on these accounts.

Now that all that is done... Today I'm blogging about what's in the news. Every time we turn on the news channel or open a newspaper you can't deny that all you see is negative stories, sad stories and stories of hatred and violence all over the world. Right? Here are a few examples from stories in the news right now:
- Grumbling over the new plastic bag charge in the UK
- Policeman killed in Merseyside
- Animals held in horrible captivity environments
- Animals held in horrible captivity environments
- School shooting in America
- Floods in France causing deaths
- Cuts to care homes
- Air strikes in Syria
- Air strikes in Syria
The list goes on and on. I have a request for my readers... Tonight, if and when, you're watching the news I want you to count how many stories have the slightest negative tone to them. And then count how many were totally eye opening, inspiring and made you feel happy/positive.
I guarantee the result will shock you. You may already be thinking to yourself "yeah actually, that's right every time I watch the news I never see something good". Even the news reporters look so serious and sullen all the time!
What we don't consciously realise is how it affects our mood. How many times have you finished watching the news and got into a heated debate about an issue that you were passionately angry about? Wouldn't it be a lot nicer to get into a heated debated about something you were passionately happy about? We should definitely know about these stories, we need to be aware of the things going on in the world so that we can help make change. But wouldn't it really make a difference to our mood if we always saw at least one or two stories on the news which celebrates someone's amazing achievements?
Too many good deeds go unnoticed and too many positive and reassuring stories don't make the headlines because they're 'not what people want to read'. And this is a sad fact. Fact is people don't talk about good deeds as much as they do horrifying stories on the front page. I think this needs to change; I personally love reading about people's accomplishments and love reading stories of positive change or just positive stories in general.
This website, positivenews.org.uk, does exactly that. I only discovered this recently when looking into things I could include in this post to get people to actively seek good news. It's a great website because it has all the recent news stories on there - the 5p bag charge, the refugee crisis, the animal activists etc. but it looks at it in a different way. It makes you see things in a positive way which, in my eyes, would spark much more 'mood healthy' conversations! It also shares stories of positive change and celebrates individuals for achievements, good deeds and social action.
I would really recommend taking a look at the website and would encourage all my readers to have a daily news digest through this website in the morning instead of the regular news and see the difference it makes.
I've also started to read the magazine 'Psychologies' which has some really good articles in about mental well being and staying positive. There are loads of different focuses in each issue but I think they're a great light read and can really motivate you to make small changes in your life to better your well being! (Little bit of bias being a psychology student - sorry!).
What's important to remember is that everything has an impact on our mood, happiness and general outlook. The more mindful, and consciously aware, we are of the things that influence our mood the easier it is to focus our attention and energy towards something more positive.
Please comment below any thoughts you've had on this article, anything you agree or disagree on! I really value every comment made about my blog whether here, in person, through family and friends, social media etc. :)
As always, thanks for reading!
